The Alamo Area Library System (AALS) offers consulting services to library staff members. AALS staff make annual onsite visits to libraries. We are also available to library staff Monday through Friday 8-5 for phone consultations. Library staff and supporters may also reach us by e-mail:

Benefits of System Membership
Consulting Librarians and technical staff are available for onsite consultations. Professional collection of books and videos is available. AALS staff will work with each library on Texas Public Library Standards in regards to their annual statistics. AALS staff will work with each library director on evaluating their policies and long-range plans. AALS staff will work with libraries using the TechAtlas online service in order to record inventory, promote budgeting techniques for technical equipment and prioritize planning options for future technical needs. AALS staff will work with interested libraries in developing their own Web pages. AALS provides professional consulting information through the AALS Web site www.aalstx.org.
Shared Resources Large group discounts from Baker & Taylor and other vendors are extended to members. Storytime and toddler kits are available for children’s programs. Publicity equipment is available such as die cutouts, laminator, poster maker, button maker and other equipment. AALS offers cleaning and polishing of CDs and DVDs to member collections. AALS circulates book club titles to members.
Technology Advanced technical training is available from New Horizons Computer Training Center for members. AALS Web site: www.aalstx.net Onsite technical consulting, specializing in the areas of library automation and TexShare databases, is provided. Technical equipment is available for loan to member libraries such as laptop computers, a LCD/video projector, data projectors and a digital camera. Consulting assistance provided for e-rate forms and the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) guidelines. Network, hardware and security technical assistance provided through the Technical Assistance Negotiated Grant. Web design and support is available to member libraries.
Continuing Education Traditional face-to-face workshops and hands-on training sessions covering library topics are conducted several times a year. Training vouchers for software application classes are available at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers for members. Online distance education is available through the University of North Texas.
